Surgical exposure of impacted anterior teeth can be performed with various techniques of periodontal plastic surgery to reach the retained teeth ans to prepare the superficial periodontium. For this purpose, two protocols with well codified indications can be implemented as open-eruption or closed-eruption techniques. In certain particular clinical situations, however, both types of interventions can be envisaged. Consequently, which option to choose ? In the present work, advantages and disadvantages of each technique will be presented both on aesthetic and periodontal points of view for a better therapeutic choice.
