ABSTRACT — The French health system is based on the principles of solidarity, universality and equity. However, there are still important horizontal disparities in health and access to healthcare, particularly in the dental sector. Indeed, oral health is particularly concerned because the delivery of dental care has a very specific pattern (liberal practice, high technicality of practices and lack of social welfare).
The purpose of this study is to analyze the French dental sector through its strengths and weaknesses as well as its peculiarities compared with its European neighbors. Members of the College of Academic Dental surgeons in Public health have conducted research in health economics, dealing for example with access to care, prices setting, barriers and specificities of the access to dental care for vulnerable populations.
